Nicole Gil- Reflection #1
"How to present a good presentation My Reflection"
Dear Sherri, I really enjoyed how organized and informative the presentations were I learned a lot from the many different people in the presentations . My role was being a project manager during the presentation I was assigned to group 4 and we wrote about the different types of presentations there is in the world. As we worked together to complete are projects, we learned the different forms of speaking that we will be working on to get are points across. The first was informative speech which is meaning to catch the audience's attention and display your message with meaningful information that is accurate and straight to the point so you can clearly understand what's going on. The second one explained persuasive speech which its goal was to persuade the audience to take a certain side like a presentation on why a certain cereal is better than its competition.
Group 4 "The Types of Wonderful Presentations For Us to Learn"
We also went in detail about understanding an argument which explained that in public speaking an argument isn't referring to something negative it doesn't have any negative connotations meaning when you're explaining an argument you're showing the position you stand for. Following the arguments position with reasoning and evidence. What I loved most about group 4 is the many life examples given comparing the different types of speeches to life scenarios. What we can do to improve as a group is practice repeating are parts and better understand are topics. The day we presented many of us were nervous and read straight from the flashcards staring down showing are fear, but I believe are evidence and facts were correct and explained well our topic the limited time that we had was carried out since we fulfilled presenting for 28 minutes on our first time presenting.
Group1 " The Important Tricks for a Great Presentation"
While listening to the other presentations I learned a lot from each one they all contributed to the main points of public speaking. Firstly, group one lead by Valentina was well organized it thought me a lot about the evolving art of public speaking and many tips and tricks to becoming a good public speaker. We were thought by group 1 the foundations of public speaking spoken throughout the groups but introduced in the beginning by group 1 which explained each foundation starting with Aristotles rhetoric which includes logos, pathos, ethos, mythos which are appeals that we use in every day life and we will have moment in our speeches that will refer to his rhetorics so that the audience understands what are you trying to say.The five arts of public speaking helped make a list in order showing the correct arrangement of a presentation which is invention,,arrangement, style ,memory and delivery it’s important for you to have an some understanding of how to make a good presentation so that your audience could feel excited and interested on what you have to say.So I feel that as a whole group one got there point across and even if there was some anxiety they kept speaking on what they new and understood from their presentation.
Conquering your fears of presenting and
In public speaking it’s important to realize that it’s okay to make mistakes you will get nervous and stutter on words but as you grow as speaker you get more confident in the way you speak. Some good tips to stay calm while you speak is taking a deep breath don’t let your anxiety stop you from presenting a good presentation.A lot of amazing people all started somewhere so it important to practice what your trying to say the saying practice makes perfect is through the more you do something the better you get at that certain like for me I constantly have to practice being patient since I work with kids and need to understand what they are trying to say.So as I presented I was nervous but the more I spoke I felt like it went smoother. So for upcoming presentations I feel like this video can help my other presenters better calm their emotions as they speak and better their eye contact with their crowd since they won't be so nervous after.
Group 2 "Crash Course To A Good Speech"
What really stuck to me during all the presentation was group 2 and there was a certain person that as he spoke he didn’t even look at his paper once which was Joshua he spoke like he new his presentations from the palm of his hand and he was confident as he spoke. He thought us how it’s important to have credible evidence and it’s important to have reliable sources so that the audience can trust you .To have a good presentation you need to cite ur sources and give credit to the sources you use.Group 2 lead by Fernando his group showed class I loved their outfits. They dressed well presented well and showed a crash course to speech.I like how their slides went into detail when they mentioned their general purpose they have a list of what it was and how it was designed pretty it wasn’t boring it had color and their voices felt like I was watching a video. It may have been short but I felt that most of them gave evidence that was well organized and explained the things needed to give a quick overview of what’s required.
Group 3 "Delivering Your Speech"
Lastly group 3 also lead by Valentina thought us the final which is having to deliver your speech which the group memebers went into detail about having a good introduction and conclusion.Because the same way you catch the audiences attention is the same way you want to end it on a high note where the audience is enjoying the watching you speak and not bored.Bit in order to develop good intros and conclusions you need to learn how to develop it so I like how group 3 explained the best approaches for example mention the primary effect and recency effect which are the two main tops of your presentation.when it came to language I love the visuals given they connected the audience by showing a different type of culture compared to ours and how in an add they show certain images to catch the audiences attention. That thought me to go into more detail and want to be more creative as I present my next project so that my audience would be interested in remembering what I said.
Final Thoughts
Conclusion I feel that every group used their strengths and all have good credible evidence and nicely organize presentations. The things we should in prove in as I spoke form my point of view as a manager is knowing the information and understanding where the speakers coming from.So that we can all understand what is trying to be said and it also looks better when we speak than reading from a paper the whole time. Also having more confidence and looking at the audience some groups don’t even want to look up and that’s okay but we should move past that as we present.Lastly I believe there was great communication throughout the class and managers with making sure everyone got their work done and I feel like this is an amazing start to our public speaking class.
